Joan Wood & Company
Joan Geiger Wood is a Certified Fundraising Executive with extensive experience developing and implementing successful fundraising programs, having raised over $115 million for non-profit organizations during a 30+ year career.
Joan has raised funds to provide needed legal services for poor families and children, to get help for victims of sexual assault, to prevent human trafficking, to preserve our environment, to improve public health issues such as gun violence and nuclear energy, as well as a myriad of civil rights issues affecting women, blind people, African Americans, veterans and many others.
Joan began her career specializing in direct marketing, working with the NAACP, Sierra Club, National Organization for Women, among others. Later she ran the development shops for Children’s Law Center, RAINN (Rape Abuse and Incest National Network), Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington and EMILY’s List. Joan has been consulting since 2012 helping organizations meet their immediate funding needs while helping establish a sustainable funding strategy. Recent clients include: NEA Healthy Futures, Free the Slaves, Nuclear Threat Initiative, United Nations Foundation and EarthEcho International.
She is an expert presenter to CEOs, donors, boards and fundraising colleagues. A member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, currently serves on the board of the AFP DC Chapter, is vice president of marketing for the chapter and co-chair of the marketing committee for the 2017 Bridge to Integrated Fundraising Conference. She previously held the roles of vp of education and was co-chair of the 2015 National Capital Philanthropy Day celebration. Joan is a local Washingtonian and graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park. She lives with her husband and four cats in Silver Spring, Maryland and is a published pet photographer.
